Acceptability of SAHRIT Programmes Print E-mail

SAHRIT programmes are highly valued by both governments and the private Sector within the SADC region.  The essential relevance of the programmes derives, partly, from the rationale for their existence.  The programmes filled in an essential information and knowledge gap during the years following United Nations and Vienna Declarations calling on the universal promotion of human rights in educational institutions.

An example of an indication of the demand and recognition of SAHRIT programmes is through visits to its website, where there are an average of 28,0000 visits per month to this website.

The popularity of the programmes also emanates from SAHRIT’s stature as an organisation that enjoys legitimacy because it is indigenous to the region, is a credible organisation and has no significant political hindrances despite that it emanates from a region with a colonial past that disregarded human rights and good governance.

The acceptability of the programmes is further ensured by the institution’s strategy of not politicising the violation of rights but instead creating dialogue towards compliance, with all stakeholders.
