A Consultative Meeting for Judiciary Officers on Judicial Cooperation and Mutual Legal Assistance and the Implementation of the SADC Regional Anti-Corruption Programme" will be in South Africa from 29 October - 1 November 2007.
The aim of this consultative meeting is to engage with the judiciary as they play a critical role in the successful delivery of justice and it is important that they appreciate the key aspects that will support the successful prosecution of corruption cases and ultimately successful implementation of the provisions of the SADC Protocol Against Corruption and other related legal instruments. The objectives of the consultative meeting are to: 1) Provide a general overview on corruption and the level at which the discourse in the region has advanced 2) Increase the understanding of magistrates on the concepts of extradition, mutual legal assistance, asset forfeiture and recovery 3)Enhance the understanding of the Judiciary on legal components of international and regional anti-corruption instruments 4)Enhance understanding on the need for harmonization of anti-corruption legislation (5)Provide a platform for sharing of experiences and best practices Only registered users can write comments.
